What does Memorial Day mean to you? Originally called Decoration Day. It is a Federal holiday observed in the United States originating after the American Civil War to commerate the fallen soldiers of the Civil War. Now it is used to commerate all fallen soldiers from all wars.
In addition, it is a time I remember my Father whose birthda was always during this weekend and the first weekend of summer vacation when I was growing up. Dad is no longer with us so I remember him. He was not a fallen soldier, but did serve in the Navy as a young man. But mostly for me, I remember him for him.
For me it is remembering my Father, celebrating the lives of those that are still with us. Celebrating with family and friends gathering for the start of summer with cookouts and good times.
Be safe this weekend and enjoy whatever this weekend means for you and your family.
